The Rise of Reels: How vertical videos are dominating the internet

The Rise of Reels: How vertical videos are dominating the internet

Is it time to enter into the doom scroll algorithm?

In the ever-evolving world of social media, trends come and go like fleeting moments. However, one trend that has managed to capture the attention of millions and shape the way we consume content is the rise of Instagram/TikTok/Facebook/and Youtube Reels.

Brands and businesses have recognized the potential of Reels as a powerful marketing tool. These short, engaging videos have transformed the way content is consumed online.

With smartphones becoming an extension of ourselves, content consumption has shifted to the palm of our hands. The vertical format of 9:16 reels capitalizes on this mobile-centric experience. With the majority of internet users accessing platforms like Instagram from their smartphones, it's only logical that content creators would tailor their videos to fit the natural orientation of the device. This easily consumable format fits seamlessly into the busy lives of millions of users and has led to an increased engagement rate and the ability to reach a wider audience for businesses and users globally.

Instagram's algorithm prioritizes Reels, making them highly discoverable on a user’s feed and the Explore page. This level of exposure has contributed significantly to their viral nature, organic advertising without a big budget pushing it to screens. The format's popularity and reach provide a unique opportunity for individuals and companies to showcase their products and services in a creative and engaging manner.

A well-crafted Reel has the potential to reach a vast audience, even beyond a creator's follower count, leading to increased engagement, new followers, and expanded reach. By strategically incorporating Reels into marketing strategies, users and businesses can boost exposure count and bottom line by creating memorable and distinctive vertical content.

The results? Check out the below example of a Reel produced for Knight Frank in Launceston, Tasmania. This was a premium home listing. Upon posting the video absolutely blew up! Reaching over 14,000 people within a few days. The home was then leased and Knight Franks target market was found in the masses.

Embracing the realm of vertical video and Instagram Reels for your business is not just a fad, it's a strategic move that can reshape your brand's online presence and engagement.

Our team of content creation specialists is here to captivate your target audience with vertical,  bite-sized, visually appealing narratives that are perfectly suited for smartphone consumption.

By entrusting Prime Perspectives with your reels, you'll receive visually captivating content that not only represents your business professionally but also sets you apart in a crowded digital landscape.

Tourism Australia's National Experience Content Initiative (NECI)

Prime Perspectives are proudly collaborating with Tourism Australia for the National Experience Content Initiative (NECI). The initiatives objective is the assist tourism operations across Australia by providing them fresh new marketing content due to implications from the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Across Australia there are 57 regions in which these works are being conducted. Inclusive of this are approximately 1,500 tourism operations that are reaping the benefits of new marketing content thanks to production companies like Prime Perspectives PTY LTD.

Throughout this project, Prime Perspectives have been covering tourism operations along the East Coast of Tasmania. As our team spend a lot of time on the East Coast for leisure, it is an absolute blessing to be covering such a unique part of Australia with an abundance of vineyards, restaurants, hikes, wildlife, water based activities, and stunning scenery.

Each operation that we over receives a 60 second video promotion, 40 high-quality processed images, and 10 minutes of RAW B-Roll footage that the business can then be cut into different video productions of the operators choosing in the latter. We expect to see this content flaunted across social media, their websites, brochures, and perhaps even cut into television commercials. Having this content at hand will provide the tourism operators a greater chance of capturing the attention of travellers, resulting in more bookings into the future as the economy resumes back to normal.

Working closely with Tourism Australia has provided us with some incredible industry experience, it is extremely creative, has allowed us to challenge and enhance our production techniques, and has taken us numerous hidden gems that we didn’t know existed. By being a part of this project, we’ve gained a deeper knowledge as to how interesting, beautiful, kind, creative, and unique our characters across Tasmania really are that host our beautiful backyard to visitors everyday.

Meanders Falls Hike: Distance, Time, & Getting There

MEANDER FALLS - Prime Perspectives
Meander Valley Falls

Meander Falls is located in the Northern part of Tasmania bordering the Central Plateau Conservation Area, located within the Meander Forest Reserve. It is stated to be one of the more challenging day hikes in Tasmania and after experiencing this first hand… I completely agree.

Parks Tasmania suggests you allow 4.5 - 7 hours return for the hike, but as always, is completely over-estimated to allow for slower hikers with multiple resting stops. It is always recommended to pack a head torch and basic survival kit on longer hikes like this because one can never be too safe. The trail is marked by Red out and Yellow in markers and is approximately 10.5km long.

My experience at Meander Falls commenced at 1PM in August, where the sunset was due at 6:00pm. Whilst also being in a forest, you can assume light will disappear quicker. I was a little bit hesitant in leaving the trailhead at 1 pm given the 7-hour estimate but I’ve completed other hikes around the state at a fast pace. In short, I was back in the car park at 4 pm. A total of 3 hours with about 45 minutes at Meander Falls to soak it all in. Literally. I would presume most hikers would complete this in 4.5 hours return if fit and determined. Don’t forget to account for your driving time to get to the Meander Falls Hiking Track car park. This is about 1 hour from Launceston and 3 hours from Hobart.

The weaving track into the valley is timeless. The greenery and old man’s beard hanging from trees in the forest really is the perfect reset, not to mention the pristine air that feels so good to inhale. There are multiple viewing platforms looking down to Meander River on the ascend which only heightens your excitement for Meander Falls. The water for the most part is VERY clean. You can drink the water straight from the river without a life straw, knowing that it’s been filtered naturally and originated from rain or snow on the central plateau.

When visiting in winter the waterfall often freezes over, which makes for great photos for the budding photographer. Ensure you pack warm clothing. In August, I wore a jumper and a top-layer raincoat. I ended up taking both layers off whilst running up the mountain and heating up.

One of the most exciting moments for me on the hike, alongside the forest, was reaching the top of a middle grade ascend to see Meander Falls in the distance. I’ll let the imagery of this speak for itself.

Once at the top of Meander Falls, ensure you follow the track to the left and boulder to the bottom of the waterfall. Feeling the wind from the water impacting the river at the bottom is a fun experience. There are also some other interesting perspectives down there and a great opportunity to fill up your water bottle.

As always, clean up after yourself on this hike. Leave nothing but your footprints. This hike reveals one of the nicest waterfalls in Tasmania and shouldn’t be skipped by the budding photographer, hiker, or outdoor enthusiast.
